Extended School Closure Communication

Jaguar Families,

I know many of you are aware that the Governor has closed Virginia schools for the remainder of the 2019-20 academic school year.  Similar to you, I felt a variety of emotions when I heard his announcement and needed some time to process.

Selfishly, I never envisioned my first year as a principal ending like this.  I keep thinking about how much I still have to do personally and professionally to grow as a leader, as well as, our goals as a school that we set to accomplish.

It still seems very surreal to me at this point, but it is happening.  I am now forced to switch my mindset and my actions to a “new normal”, which I will do as I continue to lead and support our school community through this unprecedented time.

I want you to know that our whole staff has been thinking about you and your children.  We all worry about you all and the sadness that you might be feeling as we move forward.

Having said all of this, I know that we will come together as a community and continue to find ways to uplift and support each other.  I know that there is no other school that I would want to be the principal of and no other community that I want to serve.  I appreciate you all and am here for you.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or a member of my staff if you need anything.

The division and/or myself will be updating you all in regards to next steps once we have them.

Take care of yourselves and your families.

Respectfully,

Ashby Johnson

School Closure Communication

Jouett Students and Families,                                                                   March 16, 2020

We hope you and your family are safe and healthy during this ever-changing situation. As you may know, ACPS has been sending out communication to families regarding school closure.  I wanted to follow up with a few items, as well.  I also wanted to thank you all and the staff for remaining flexible and patient.  Everyone has done a wonderful job!

School Closure
Currently, all Virginia public schools are closed from March 16-March 27 due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Jouett will be open from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm on both Monday, March 16 and Tuesday, March 17 if your child needs to get belongings.  Medication can also be picked up from the main office by a parent/guardian.

Instruction/Work
All work is review, optional and not graded over the school closure.
Some teachers may have reached out already regarding review work.
We also have packets of review work available in the main office for pick-up after noon on Monday and all day on Tuesday.

Check-In
During the school closure period, you can be expecting a check-in from a Jouett staff member (postcard, phone call, text, email, etc.)
Please let us know if there is anything you need from us.

Meals
The school division is in the process of creating a plan for meals and will be sending out communication shortly.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me at ajohnson@k12albemarle.org or the main office at 434-975-9320.

We look forward to seeing everyone again soon.

Thank you,

Ashby Johnson, Principal

October Information

Families,

Thank you all for your support as we are getting ready to close out the first quarter.  It has been an excellent start to the school year.  We have a lot of fun activities coming up for students.  Please read below for the important events and dates:

  • October 18 - Soccer Jamboree, ICA, and Make Up Picture Day
  • October 25 - Fall Field Day
  • November 1, 4, and 5 - No School for Students
We will try to update this blog as often as possible and include pictures and events of what is going on at Jouett.

Additionally, we are trying to gather more information around family and community engagement at our school.  We will be sending out a survey through email, to start, to gather your input about what we are doing well and what you want to see done differently.

As always, feel free to reach out with questions, concerns, and/or positives.

Thank you so much for your partnership,

Jouett Community Message: We’re Excited to Meet You

Dear Jouett Families and Community Members:

We hope you all are having a great summer and looking forward to the 2019-20 school year. I cannot express how excited both Christie Isaiah and I are to be working with the Jouett community. As a former student of Jouett myself, this is an incredibly special school for me to be a part of and lead.

I wanted to let you know that during the month of July, we have organized several different opportunities for us to meet you and your family.  All of these are held either in the community or at Jack Jouett Middle School and are very informal.  Locations, dates, and times can be found on our website.

Another opportunity for us to get together is through a scheduled 30-minute meeting. If you would like to schedule an individual meeting, please contact Chastity Clements in the main office at 434-975-9320.

We would love to hear from you about any questions, ideas, thoughts or concerns you have. We look forward to building partnerships with you and your family this year.

Have a great rest of your summer!

Respectfully,

Ashby Johnson
